In 5th grade, we do three debates a year. So far, we have done a debate on school uniforms, and internet access. The results of the debate do not often effect the school. There are two teams that debate each side. PRO agrees with the topic, and CON is against the topic. The moderator manages the whole debate. He or she is in charge of timing each team and making the rules for the debate. He or she also makes a speech to start off the debate. Pro and Con debate against each other. If the question is for Pro, they would get to answer, then Con would get a rebuttal. After Pro would get a second rebuttal. If the question is for Con, it is the other way around. They get different amounts of time, depending on the moderator. 


      This is a picture of the question panel. They ask questions for both teams. 7 for Con and 7 for Pro. They each ask 2 questions. They spend their preparation time preparing questions and making invitations.        Spencer was the moderator of our second debate. This is a picture of him giving the opening speech. Emily was the moderator for the first debate. One of the jobs as the moderator is to make posters and make sure the teams are working well together during preparation times. 
        
                     
This is Con. They are against the topic. They answer 7 questions. Pro and Con both need opening statements, which could be skits, speeches, or powerpoints. This is Pro. They are for the topic. They answer 7 questions, and work hard to think of rebuttals.
